Our
Story
In January 2008, Bryan was sitting in a tough spot: He
had tried using Yahoo Mail, but quit after only a week,
since his inbox was full of Spam; After using Gmail for
the past year he left because he wanted to keep his
emails private; And after testing out Hotmail, he was
tired of having advertising everywhere. He set out to
create his own email service, including the features
that he felt where missing from the “Big Three.” In
February the domain Bryzo.com was purchased and the
server was ready to go, so Bryan spent an afternoon
setting up the server and coding up the website,
allowing only Chai and Tootsie Rolls to keep him
running. He privately opened up his service to a select
group of friends who were interested in trying out the
email service.
In the
Fall of 2008, Bryan moved to Alma College, taking the
idea of Bryzo along with him. Before long, friends on
campus wanted email accounts through the service,
causing the transition to becoming a public email
service. In the month of August, Pat joined the team to
assist with Marketing, and in September Ryan M. and Ryan
Y. joined the team to assist with User Support. Before
the end of August, Ryan L. had joined the team to take
over the website development, so Bryzo could focus on
administering the email system.
